At Technology and Pedagogics Department foreign students got acquainted with Ukrainian culture. Participators in International competitions of decoratice and applied art, their winners, leading lecturers of the department, candidates of pedagogical sciences, assistant professors Oleg Melentiev, Valentyna Kharytonova, Nataliia Dubova, seniour lecturer V. Potapkin, educational master I. Borysevych conducted master classes in national handicrafts, such as “Plant ornament in carving”, “Beads braiding”, “Metal plasticity”, “Decorative leather treatment”, “Clay painting arts”.

Ukrainian national decorative and applied art is rich and various: decorative wood treatment, embroidering, weaving, carving, decorative ceramics, earthenware, leatherware, strawware, wicker threading, straw application, engraving, etc. It is characterized by traditionality, decorative restrain; prevail of old geometric motifs, black-and-white chords in clothes, similarities with other Slavonic nations in motifs, subject and character.

The foreign students had an opportunity to get to know about different techniques in work with leather, metal, clay, and the other materials; they had a chance to work by one of the techniques. They were working in small groups under the guidance of skilled professionals. The students were inspired by carving and engraving ornaments on wood; they got acquainted with peculiarities of some techniques of decorative metal treatment, such as caulking, they tried to reproduce raised pictures in metal. They were amazed by clay painting arts, because of a few sketches bunches of flowers appeared on pitchers. The foreign students were interested in techniques connected with making of adornments and different natural materials decoration, such as beads braiding, decorative leather treatment.

Inspired by their work, talanted lecturers and masters of Technology and Pedagogics Department gave an opportunity for the foreign youth to touch beauty – Ukrainian national decorative and applied arts, the beauty which will save the world!

During 2014-2015 academic year 249 foreign students study at our university, among them 4 attend preparatory courses, 245 study at 11 departments: Natural Sciences and Geography Department, Physics and Mathematics Department, Technology and Pedagogics Department, Physical Training Department, Foreign Languages Department, Ukrainian Philology Department, Arts and Pedagogics Department, Department of Economics, Primary Education Department, Preschool Education Department and History Department. The majority of foreign students (237) came from Taras Shevchenko Lugansk National University, V. Dal’ Eastern Ukrainian National University, Lugansk National Agrarian University.

Foreign students come from such countries, as China, Israel, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Serbia, Ghana, Algeria. They obtain bachelor degree in 15 specialties.

For educational and educative work with foreign students is responsible pro-rector in scientific and pedagogical work, professor Tetyana Kochubei; department with foreign students through group curatorcs and faculty deans (director Nadiya Remezovska) helps her in work with foreign students. Organization and work with foreign students is one of the main directions of activities at preparatory and basic departments. The adaptation activity lies in psychological help and immersion with cultural environment, cardinal difference from habitual.
