May 9th we celebrate the victory of the anti-Hitler coalition over Nazi Germany. Ukrainian people have made a worthy contribution into the defeat of the enemy. Our forefathers fought for freedom, right for life at the cost of their lives and health, they have established peace in our country. Ukrainians on various fronts of World War II got closer and closer to the victory every day. Millions of people provided support for soldiers. And our sacred duty is to remember the price of victory, the millions of victims who did not return from the battlefield, or remained disabled.

The students of the History Department try to save the memory of those times. War is the greatest of disasters, its terrible outcome is the death and suffering of ordinary people, crying mothers and widows, orphan children. Nothing will make us forget the greatness of the exploits of defenders of our motherland who fought for the happiness of the future generations.

Especially painful place in the history of our country is the "Uman pit" concentration camp. Inhuman conditions and violence of the occupiers towards the prisoners have made it a place of mass grave of thousands of people, including soldiers and civilians who tried to help them. The students of the History Department of group 43 laid flowers to the graves of the soldiers and honored the heroes with a moment of silence.

The students also helped the historians to bring in order a mass grave where the war casualties of the infirmary number 2 were buried. It had operated in Uman during the German occupation. Historians have spent hours cleaning the area from debris and taking care of the flower beds. The students of group 41 and 42 commemorated the tankers that were defending Uman. Putting flowers at the foot of the monument located on the Victory Square our students bowed their heads before the liberators of their native land. Students of group 21 made a mini flash mob: they created the memory cards with the information on the major battles in Ukraine. Each battle resulted in thousands of deceased and prisoners, tens of thousands wounded people. These cards were distributed among our students and residents.

Everyone watched the historical film dedicated to the theme of war. Participants watched the documentary video of the war.

May 8, 1945 at 23.00 (the European average time) the Nazi Germany signed an act of surrender. It was at 23.00 that Europe began a peaceful life. The staff of the History Department joined the initiative of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and the Institute of National Memory to hold "The first minute of peace" action. The students lit candles at the Obelisk of Glory to commemorate the honor of the soldiers with a moment of silence. May 9 the representatives of the History Department became partakers of the meeting as part of the delegation of USPU and laid flowers to the Obelisk of Glory.

But most importantly, the students realize the value of peace, the need to stop all wars on earth and establish a happy, peaceful future in Ukraine and all the countries of the world. Bowing their heads before the veterans to honor the bright memory of the casualties, the youth thanked them for winning and trying to make every effort to keep the peace.
