Every year we celebrate the Victory Day on the 9 of May. A meeting with laying flowers was held near the sanctuary of our city – the Obelisk of Glory, Heroes Memorial and graves of fallen soldiers -liberators. The participants in the meeting were the representatives of Pavlo Tychyna USPU who laid flowers at the foot of the memorial. The delegation was headed by Natalia Pobirchenko, the Rector of the University.
Oleksandr Patara, the Student Council Chairman, heartily congratulated the war veterans and all the Uman residents on the Victory Day at the solemn meeting.
Everyone enjoyed the singing of Oleksandr Osadchiy and "Gonta" vocal trio consisting of Vasyl Semenchuk, Valentyn Kupchyk and Petro Voloshyn.
The memorable day of May 9 represents heroism, fortitude, military exploits and eternal sorrow for the fate of millions of lost Ukrainian lives, unfulfilled dreams and ideas. The descendants of the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War consider loyalty and civil duty, lifelong honor and respect their highest values of life. We bow to all those who passed away during the occupation and those who had experienced the hell of concentration camps, who rose from the ruins and revived the native land. The Ukrainian people paid a high price for taking part in the most horrible war in the entire history of the world – the war of 1941-1945. So we will always remember the great feat and the great tragedy of our people the heroic battle, the victory over the Nazis. People can have different opinions about the WWII, but is it impossible to forget those who have fallen in the war, who have given their lives for the happiness of others.
May 9 will forever remain tragic because of the bitterness of losses, yet it is illuminated by the sun of the Victory. Our uncertain present can not replace the joy of the spring on the Victory Day. The terrible word of "war" brings up an unspeakable horror. This is deeply conveyed in the verses:
"This is where the history can start;
This is time of human birth.
The War will forever live in our heart -
For we have defended our Earth!"
Today, the people voiced their heartfelt greetings to the veterans: "Peace and comfort for you and your families! Eternal glory to the veterans! Let peace and harmony always live in our land!"
