"Geography and Ecology: Science and Education" V Nationwide Scientific Conference with international participation dedicated to the 200th anniversary of birth of Taras Shevchenko and the 60th anniversary of the Cherkasy Oblast was held on the 10-11 of April in USPU. The initiators of the conference were the Chair of Geography and Methods of Teaching Geography and the Chair of General and Environmental Geosciences of the University. Among the scientific co-organizers of the event there were Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University named after Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky, Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University and the “Regional studies. Geography. Tourism” newspaper.

Among over 100 participants of the event there were representatives of academic schools from Belgium, Bulgaria, Poland and Russia. In addition, the conference was attended by the scientists and representatives of universities and research institutions of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus.

At the beginning of the conference, Oleksandr Kobernyk, the Director of the Institute of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Technology Education was taking the floor.

The conference was discussing the controversial issues within three sections: 1) Fundamental and applied researches in geography: progress, problems and prospects; 2) Landscape and ecology monitoring in Ukraine; 3) Active methods of teaching geography and ecology in educational institutions. The results of the scientific event were published.

Oksana Braslavska, the Head of the Chair of Geography and Methods of Teaching Geography at Pavlo Tychyna USPU, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor made a report on the theme "Geographic Education and Science in Cherkasy Oblast: achievements and prospects in Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University". During the plenary session Oksana Volodymyrivna was awarded with the Diploma of Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education Establishments of Ukraine.

Sergiy Polovka, Doctor of Geological Sciences, Professor, Head of the Chair of General Geology and Earth Science at USPU, presented his "At the intersection of science" report. Svitlana Sovgira, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Chair of Chemistry and Environment at USPU reported on "Environmental action methodology."

Ivan Kovalchuk, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine who presented "Electronic map of the condition and usage of land resources in the administrative area as a tool for environmental monitoring of land use", made a "scientific gift" for our University. He presented his book "The erosion of the western Podillya".

For educational purposes, the visitors were invited for tours around "Sofievka" Dendrology Park and "Golden Horseshoe of Cherkasy Oblast" Park.
