Recently, "Environment and Education" research laboratory initiated "Save the purity of water" environmental campaign at the Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University. It was dedicated to the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.

The organizers of the event were Svitlana Sovgira, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Chair of Chemistry, Ecology and Methods of Teaching Chemistry and Ecology, Anna Goncharenko, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Natalia Hnatiuk, Ph.D., Associate Professor, and the participants were the teachers and second year students of Nature and Geography Department at USPU. The purpose of the event was to save the water bodies from drying out. The implementation of this measure involves the restoration and maintenance of favorable hydrological condition of water bodies. Therefore, the coastal zone near the Umanka river and Agrobiostation of the University and industrial zone of Uman was cleaned up of debris. During this work, the participants found and cleaned up a few sources of water. Also, lab tests of water samples were taken and submitted to the local sanitary and epidemiological station for research of physical and chemical composition.

The students conducted promotional work among the young people of Uman concerning the protection of small water reservoirs. They have stressed that the problem of safety and protection of biological water resources is a painful topic for the whole community. Indeed, only by working together can we save the environment.

The USPU conservationists believe that such events are helpful to preserve the purity of water and contribute to the respect to the nature and motherland of our compatriots and help to prevent the degradation of water bodies in the future.
