Researchers of Chemistry, Ecology and Methods of its Teaching Chair of Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University - Professor Svetlana Sovgira and senior lecturer Natalia Dushechkina participated in the National Ecological Forum "Waste Management in Ukraine: Legislation, Economics and Technology". The scientific event was held on November, 22-23 in the Great Conference Hall of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv). The aim of the Forum was to determine problems and prospects of forming a strategy on management with hazardous waste, implementation of environmental initiatives that promote investment and innovation, the implementation of environmentally friendly, resource- and energy-efficient technologies at the local level etc..

Forum participants had been welcomed by the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy, Natural Resources and Elimination of Consequences of Chornobyl Catastrophe Oleg Nedava, chairman of the Subcommittee on Environmental Policy and the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster Sergiy Tryhubenko, head of the Ukrainian Environmental League, chairman of the National Environmental Council of Ukraine Tetyana Tymochko, representatives of central and regional organizations.

During the Forum the following issues had been discussed: recycling and processing of hazardous waste, hazard assessment and actions with hazardous waste management, strengthening of state control in the field of hazardous waste management in Ukraine.

The result of the Forum was the adoption of the resolution, which identified the need to ensure sustainable management of hazardous waste, efficient management of the sector,to raise awareness and motivate citizens, increase the percentage of recycled waste and reused materials, harmonizing Ukrainian and European legislation.
