This year is the first time when the university provides military training of reserve officers. 74 students are enrolled into cadets of Military Department of Sumy State University and Odesa Military Academy. Some students have already been receiving military training in Sumy. It was hard to achieve this goal, but today we can say that we gained one more important victory.

On September 19, a solemn send-off of the university students to Odesa Military Academy took place.

This event is important not only in the personal lives of each of the cadets, and it is truly a historic event in the life of the university as well as our city because it is the first time we began military training of students.




During the brass band march the cadets formed up into a column. Rector of the University, doctor of sciences (Pedagogics), professor Nataliya S.Pobirchenko; research and teaching staff of Reserve Officers Training Department of Odesa Military Academy: senior lecturer - head of course, colonel Oleksandr K. Gribinenko, lecturer of Military-specific Training Chair, colonel Ivan I. Novozhylov; lecturer of Airborne Troops Combat Use Chair, colonel Mykola P. Belyayev, University vice-rector (Scientific and educational work), associate professor Dmytro I. Baldynyuk, head of Military Training Department lieutenant-colonel Igor M. Gorbonos, Chairman of Uman City and District Union of Afghanistan Veterans reserve captain Oleg V. Zaichenko, and university lecturers, parents, students and their friends were the participants of the meeting.

Order of Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University was declared by the head of Military Training Department Igor M. Gorbonos.


University rector Nataliya S. Pobirchenko greeted the cadets: "I am sure that our students will be qualifying cadets, deservedly receive and honorably bear a high rank of an officer in two years. So, I wish you happiness, health and good spirit, confidence in happy future of our country. Return to Alma Mater healthy, strong and virile".


Oleg Lytvenyuk spoke on behalf of all students and expressed a sincere gratitude to the University for the opportunity to learn and receive military training. He also thanked to the lecturers of Odesa Military Academy for their kindness, understanding and professionalism. Cadets received the initial military skills during the training and demonstrated it.


University creative teams took part in that grand and festive event. Students were presented the greeting cards with best wishes to commemorate this historic event in their life.
