The scientific and research laboratory “Uman historical and regional ethnography” of USPU and State history and architectural preserve “An Old Uman” conducted the fifth Uman history and biography conference “Uman history by names”.

The scientific and research laboratory in collaboration with historians, ethnographers and people who are interested in our regional history works under defining forgotten names of our fellow countrymen and populirazation of historical and cultural heritage of Uman. The result of this collaboration was confirmed by publishing of the collection of research works. Historical biography, traditions and contemporary tendencies of development were presented at the conference. The members of the scientific event revealed names of famous people during national social and political Uman liberation movement, the role of Uman dwellers in national and cultural life of Ukraine. There were interesting investigations dedicated to Uman regional ethnographers.

This conference is only a small part of the planned organisational and scientific events. According to the further planned actions are publication activities and practical investigation. Now the work is centred around Uman history database study (separately different social groups) of local periodicals, systematization of materials, published in different issues of XIX c. - beginning of the XX c.
