To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Cherkasy Oblast and the 200 birth anniversary of Taras Shevchenko the "Embroidered Uman" television contest was initiated by "Uman" TV channel together with the executive committee of Uman City Council supported by the Mayor Yuriy Bodrov. The results were summarized and the winners were awarded in the exhibition hall of the "Stara Uman" State Historical-Architectural Reserve.



In his opening remarks Oleksander Solop, the Director of "Television of Uman" noted that the "Embroidered Uman" was the first TV project dealing with embroidery. Mayor Yuriy Bodrov greeted the contestants and guests. He stressed the importance of this cultural event in promotion of the material and spiritual culture of Uman area.


The members of the jury (Natalia Mamchur, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Ukrainian literature and Ukraine studies, Tetiana Geiko, the Head of Culture and Tourism Department, Tamara Guy, the Head of Art Museum) shared their impressions of the contest and awarded the winners with diplomas and valuable gifts.

It is pleasant to note that among the favorites there were the participants of the "Ukrainian towel" embroidery master class from the Ukrainian Philology Department at USPU. The handcrafts of the Ukrainian Philology Department students Tetiana Masnyuk, Natalia Zhyvko, Alla Snisarevska, Valentyna Semerenko, Iryna Kucheryava, Svitlana Tretiak, Alina Boreyko, Oksana Zawadska absorbed the vintage embroidery skills of the historical Uman. Among the participants there were the graduates of Ukrainian Philology Department Inna Panchuk, Aliona Bohachyk, Oksana Koziy which proves the effectiveness of the master class in embroidery in the revival of folk art.




At the end of the festive event Mayor Yury Bodrov praised the organizers of the television projects. USPU teacher Natalia Mamchur received the gratitude for the fruitful cooperation and assistance in "Embroidered Uman" thematic television contest.

So everyone is welcome to see the works of "Embroidered Uman" in January in the exhibition hall of the "Stara Uman" State Historical-Architectural Reserve.
