The History Department of Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University defended the "Caribbean crisis in the eyes of witnesses" project of the intermediate stage. During the school year, the members of the "Actual problems of the world history of the twentieth century" student group under the guidance of Vlada Sokyrska, the Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of world history and law, conducted the research on the modern era in Europe and America by means of oral history.

Our countrymen - direct participants in the events on the island of Cuba in October 1962 were invited to the ceremony of the project defense. Tetiana Kuznets, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Dean of the History Department, greeted the project participants. Everyone listened to the stories of Vasyl Burmystr and Petro Nesterenko – the former soldiers, natives of Uman, about their service as part of a contingent of the Soviet Army on the island of Cuba during the Caribbean crisis and thereafter.

The young historians - participants of the project spoke about the witnesses of the event. They received the guidance from Vlada Sokyrska who encouraged them to continue the researches about these events. Summing up the project dedicated to the 52 anniversary of the Caribbean crisis is expected in October of the current year.
