9-11 April 2014 History Department at Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University held II nationwide student contest in "Political Science" for the university students that do not specialize in this area. This prestigious contest has become an annual tradition, this year it was held for the third time. 65 participants who represented 37 universities from all regions of Ukraine took part in the contest.




On the first day of the contest, according to the program, the Chair of Philosophy and Social Sciences held the nationwide Political Roundtable on "Political science in the universities of Ukraine." The representatives of research institutions in Ukraine and the teachers of political science took part in the discussion of the current problems. In the future it is planned to publish a collection of materials of the roundtable.



The next day there was a presentation of the "Anthology of political portrait." 14 out of 20 books on the list dedicated to the 85 anniversary of Pavlo Tychyna USPU were presented. A list of these publications can be found here. The scientific library of USPU suggests the visitors to read those books. (Information for anyone interested in the project: There is a special award provided for all the books approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine). The following people were speaking at the presentation: Anatoliy Karasyevych, the project initiator, PhD, Professor, Head of Department of Philosophy and Social Science at USPU, Vdadyslava Sokyrska, co-author, Associate Professor, Candidate of Historical Sciences, 4 year students of History Department - Anya Tovkys, Volodymyr Perepelyuk and Ruslana Kochubey.

The discussion was attended by all reviewers of books. This is Anatoliy Shatokhin, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Professor, Head of Department of Social and Human Sciences and Law at Uman National University of Horticulture, Vitaliy Kryvoshein, Doctor of Political Sciences, Associate Professor, Deputy Dean of the Department of Social Sciences and International Relations of Oles Honchar Dnipropetrovsk National University.

The program also included a presentation of the intellectual game between the teams “Children of Socrates” and “Brotherhood of Cyril and Methodius”. The fortune smiled at the team “Brotherhood of Cyril and Methodius” which was awarded the project books.


Students tested their knowledge and skills in two rounds - the theoretical and the research one. When performing the assignments the participants demonstrated a creative approach, a high level of political and civic culture, systematized scientific knowledge about the history and theory of political science, ability to independently analyze political phenomena and processes.


The contest was held in a tense but friendly atmosphere. For the unique, non-standard problem solution the Olympiad participants were awarded special diplomas by the Organizing Committee. According to the results, the winner was Khrystyna Zabavska (Lviv Polytechnic National University). The Second Degree Diplomas were awarded to Tetiana Maruhno (Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University), Svitlana Kucherko (Perejaslav-Khmelnytsky State Pedagogical University after named of Skovoroda), Oleg Grynchuk (Ternopil V. Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University). The Third Degree Diploma was awarded to the following contestants: Yaroslav Borovsky (Kharkiv University of Humanities "People's Ukrainian Academy"), Oleksandr Marchuk (Kamenetz-Podolsk National University named after I. Ogienko), Ruslan Lernatovych (Lviv Institute of Banking of the University of Banking of the National Bank of Ukraine) Anna Marchenko (Sumy State University), Maksym Teslyar (National University of State Tax Service of Ukraine), Daryna Koziy (Zhytomyr State University named after Ivan Franko).
