According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine "On additional measures on preparation and celebration of the 200th anniversary of birth of Taras Shevchenko" the students of History Department visited the sacred place for every Ukrainian - the grave of Taras Shevchenko on the Chernechna hill (Tarasova Mountain) in Kaniv.

The Historians started their tour with a walk along the Shevchenko's alley leading to the foot of the Tarasova Mountain. Future teachers paid tribute to the Ukrainian genius laying flowers at the foot of his grave.


In the national reserve the historians visited three exhibitions located on the first and second floors of the museum. Huge self-portraits from different periods of the poet's life, banners with Shevchenko's paintings, etchings in the windows and many other interesting exhibits swayed the spirit of grand historical past of our country. Getting to know the paintings of Taras Shevchenko the students discovered the poet as a talented artist.


Equally exciting were the exhibits on various periods of the life of Taras. The exhibition halls contain a large number of historical documents, paintings and photographs. They are connected not only with the figure of the poet but also with his environment, the time in which he lived and worked.

The Memorial Hall tells the story of the death and burial of Taras Shevchenko in St. Petersburg, the transportation of his coffin from St. Petersburg to Ukraine and reburial in Kaniv, establishment of Shevchenko's grave in the 60-80’ of the nineteenth century, visiting the graves of the prominent artists, celebrating the anniversary of Shevchenko dates. The students also visited the “Taras chamber" - the first national museum of Taras.

They enjoyed everything they had seen and expressed the gratitude to Oleksandr Osadchiy, the Head of the trade union of the University for the assistance and help in organizing the tours.
