The poetry of Taras Shevchenko is immortal! It lives on in the hearts of more and more generations of our countrymen. This was proved by the Shevchenko’s literary reading which took place in Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University and was dedicated to the 200th birth anniversary of the great poet. It was particularly pleasant to note that the literary evening was organized by the student council of the University. The representatives of all departments as well as the structural units of the institution were taking part in the activity.

The event started with "Gaunt in Uman" excerpt from the "Gaydamaky" poem which was skillfully recited by Ludmila Hekalyuk, the graduate of the University and the Head of the Public Affaires Department. Watching the fragments of "With Sword and Fire" film accompanied by "The Gaunt has Left Uman" historical song performed by the "Gonta" trio warmed up the feelings.


Veronica Smitanka, the student of Sociology and Psychology Department created a lyrical mood in the room with her masterful performance of "The Lily".

The "Visavi" Modern Dance amateur folk ensemble (directed by - Lyudmila Androschuk) have depicted Shevchenko’s nostalgia for Ukraine.


The highlight of the holiday was the performance by Eugenia Koltsova, the student of the Physical Training Department who impressed everyone with her heartfelt approach.

The audience experienced the Cossack courage and perseverance after watching the "There were Cossacks" choreographed piece by "Yavoryna" national amateur folk dance ensemble (directed by Sergiy Kutsenko).

The immortal works by Shevchenko performed by Natalia Yudchenko, Tetiana Khlivna, Sofia Ruda, Ludmyla Misyuna, Anastasia Marishchuk, Kateryna Petelchuk captured everyone’s souls.

It is pleasant to note that the literary evening included reciting not only the works by the great genius Taras Shevchenko but also the poems by the students dedicated to him. Thus, the poem "In Memory of Shevchenko" was recited by Olena Buhay, the student of the History Department.

Each of the participants remembered the words "Learn, my brethren, think, read ..." because Larysa Saulyak who recited this poem addressed the words of the great poet to everyone as his teachings are relevant even today.


The songs "Oh, my thoughts" and "The wide Dnepr roars and moans" performed by the "Kobzar" folk choir (directed by Vasyl Semenchuk) concluded the concert program.


After the event, Dmytro Baldynyuk, the Vice-Rector for Humanitarian Affairs expressed his gratitude for organizing and hosting this important event and he awarded all participants with diplomas for their active and creative activities to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko.
