The Youth meeting of Cherkasy dedicated to the International Day of the student attended by the representatives of Ukrainian Student Council and Student Council at the Cherkasy Regional State Administration, students receiving the scholarship grants of the President of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and M.S. Hrushevskiy, students winning the international competitions, participants of artistic events, athletes, and community organizations was taking place in Kaniv yesterday.

Our University was represented by Larysa Saulyak, the Head of the Students' Scientific Society, Yulia Mudrytska, the Master student of the Sociology and Psychology Department, Mariya Krayeva, the winner of the international language and literature contest named after Taras Shevchenko. The delegation was headed by Natalia Pobirchenko, the Rector of the University, Professor.

The program of the youth meeting was very intense, exciting and diverse. Initially, all participants gathered in Kaniv Institute of Humanities, the structural unit of our University established this summer on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko at the School of Culture and Arts. Hospitable hosts gave the student leaders of Cherkasy an insight into the history and present of the institution, organized a short concert and suggested to explore the city. The students enjoyed the sightseeing tour around Kaniv, one of the oldest cities of our country, the spiritual capital of Ukraine. They visited the Uspenskiy Cathedral - the monument of XII century, the arts and crafts exhibition and other touristic attractions of the old city.

And then it was time for the most important and exciting moment of the program - the Chernecha mountain climbing and visiting the museum of T.G. Shevchenko, laying flowers at the foot of the grave of the Great Poet together with Serhiy Tulub, the Hero of Ukraine.

In the conference hall of the museum the student leaders met with Serhiy Tulub, the head of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration. At the meeting the young elite and the head of the Oblast discussed the details of anniversary celebration of the important dates for the region, including the 200th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko.

"Today 47,000 students study in 30 higher education institutions in Cherkasy Oblast. These are the young people who will contribute to the development of Cherkassy region and create its future tomorrow. I am convinced that this future will be in the safe hands "- said the head of the region opening the meeting.

Sergiy Borysovych encouraged the youth to participate in the preparation for three major anniversaries next year - the 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko, the 60th anniversary of establishment and 70th anniversary of the liberation of the region - to participate in the High Council of the artists and the newly established Working Group on Cultural Heritage.

Larysa Saulyak, the Head of student scientific society of Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University took an active part in the discussion raised by the Head of Cherkasy Regional State Administration. She said that due to social initiatives of the President and the consistent support of the youth by the regional authorities the best students have the opportunity to strengthen and deepen their knowledge abroad, particularly in Poland, France, USA, etc while traveling. According to her words, this area needs further development and promotion. "Cherkasy region abounds with historical monuments connected with the history of the region and the state, and now they should be combined into touristic routes. Could the students participate in developing those routes? "- Sergiy Borysovych asked Larysa Saulyak. She assured him that the representatives of the Students' Scientific Society at USPU would certainly contribute to the development of tourism in the region, especially since the university started training the students in tourism.

Many interesting ideas and suggestions were voiced during the lively discussion, in particular, some ideas about recording videos about Cherkasy Oblast to promote our region in the Internet, the students studying the humanities, particularly philologists and historians were invited to undergo practice in Kaniv Museum of Taras Shevchenko.

"I felt your sincere appreciation of the Cherkasy region. These meetings enable the authorities to hear new ideas and suggestions, and you receive the opportunity to voice them "- said Sergiy Tulub.

The program of the youth meeting went on and all the participants went to Cherkasy. There was a discussion about the role of students in the modern world on "Ros" television studio. It is nice to note that the moderators of the discussion were Yulia Mudrytska and Maria Krayeva, two students from our University. Girls coped with the unusual role of broadcasters very well; they set the right pace of discussion and guided it in the right direction.

So the youth meeting which was so well organized and thoroughly planned was certainly a success!

Dmytro Baldynyuk, the Vice-Rector for Humanitarian Affairs at USPU.
