On the 17th and 18th of May All-Ukrainian Conference "V.O. Sukhomlynsky and XXI century school: traditions and innovations " was held to be dedicated to 15 years of the research laboratory "V.O. Sukhomlynsky and XXI century school" functioning.

The conference combined 120 participants, among them 48 members from other Ukrainian universities and 18 members from foreign educational establishments.

The Rector of the University, Doctor of Pedagogics, professor, corresponding member of NAPS Nataliya S. Pobirchenko welcomed the participants and said the words of gratitude for the creative, selfless work, professionalism, loyalty to traditions begun by V.O. Sukhomlynsky to the laboratory supervisor, academician Volodymyr G. Kuz.


In his speech, Doctor of Pedagogics, professor, honored scientist of Ukraine, member of NAPS of Ukraine V. Kuz stated that the research laboratory is confident about the future and develops new long-term plans, directions and projects. In the laboratory there is creativity, up-to-date investigation in the theory and history of Pedagogy, theory of education, comparative science, and above all - the study of V.O. Sukhomlynsky's progressive ideas on the role of teachers in modern schools, the role of primary school, peculiar role of a student in a new school, because the current educational paradigm is undergoing major changes.


Having functioned on a voluntary basis for 15 years, the laboratory issued many collections of scientific works on the common theme "V.O. Sukhomlynsky and XXI century school". Members of the laboratory published monographs, books, scientific manuals, and articles. 28 theses for a Candidate Degree and 3 theses for a Doctor degree were defended in the laboratory. 4 theses for a Candidate Degree and 1 thesis for a Doctor degree are being prepared now.

The laboratory collaborates with the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine and its Institutes, Institutes of National Academy of Sciences, V.O. Sukhomlynsky State Educational and Memorial Museum (Pavlysh village), secondary school named after V.O. Sukhomlynsky (Pavlysh village), V.O. Sukhomlynsky Ukrainian College (Kyiv), comprehensive and preschool institutions in Cherkassy region.


In their reports the participants spoke on the following: preparation of future teachers on the basis of V.O. Sukhomlynsky's ideas; V.O. Sukhomlynsky's educational system as the subject of comparative education research, V.O. Sukhomlynsky's heritage as a subject of historical and pedagogical surveys, the usage of V.O. Sukhomlynsky's innovative ideas in preschool and secondary educational establishments.


The conference was held, but the dialogue between the great Ukrainian teacher and present or future generations will continue forever, for his humanistic education will always be relevant and up-to-date.
