The Physics and Mathematics Department held a week of mathematics. The event was intended to promote the exact sciences among the students because today mathematics plays a vital role in the natural sciences, engineering and humanities. For most branches of science it has become not only a tool of quantitative calculations but also the exact method of reasoning, means of formulating clear definitions and resolving problems. Without modern mathematics and its complete and logical calculating structure it would be impossible to progress in various fields of human activity.

The week of mathematics began with the wallpaper contest and Mathematics Olympiad. The most of tasks were not so much focused on checking the knowledge gained during the study of mathematics as on the manifestation of originality and non-standard thinking.

It has become a tradition for Physics and Mathematics Department to organize intellectual competitions. The teams of the II, III and IV year students took part in the competitions, the teams of the I and IV year students were in the final competition, the IV year students were the winners.

The fans were enjoying "Oh, I can not handle this" intellectual game of 8 participants. The winner was the fourth-year student Ludmila Palamarenko who did her best in the competition for speed and clarity of thought.

Then combined team of the I and IV year students played with the team of teachers of the Mathematics Department in the "What? Where? When?" game. And the team of students of Mathematicians Department won with the score of 6:5.

"Life at the Physics and Mathematics Department" educational event was the apogee of the week of mathematics. The students demonstrated interesting facts in the study of mathematics and presented them in a special, romantic spirit to let everyone discover or at least imagine the kind of life of sciences which merged with images of famous scientists.

The final and most rewarding step in the week of mathematics was a festive meeting during which the winners were awarded diplomas. The winners and all the active participants got sweet prizes.
