The History Department of the University organized a presentation of the "The Great War of 1914-1918 and Ukraine" book prepared by the team of scientists headed by Oleksandr Reyent, Doctor of Historical Sciences, corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine. Valentyna Shevchenko and Volodymyr Lyubchenko, the researchers of the Institute of History of NAS of Ukraine, were speaking about the published book on behalf of the authors. Valentina Vitaliyivna said that the authors have tried to cover a wide range of problems arising in the life of the Ukrainian society in 1914 - 1918, to sort out various opinions, different views; and Volodymyr Borysovych introduced the structure of the book to the audience and gave a brief description of each chapter.




The students of the Department have shown a keen interest in the stories of the author team. They surprised the authors with deep and meaningful questions, the scale of thinking and a desire to gain new knowledge. Tetiana Kuznets, the Dean of the Department thanked the authors for their visit to our University, for the interesting and informative meeting and encouraged them to introduce the presentation of the second volume of the book to the History Department.

Additional information: "The Great War 1914 - 1918's and Ukraine" book presents the results of the latest research on key points of the First World War of 1914-1918, which opened a new era in the history of human civilization. Getting familiarized with those things anyone can feel the seriousness of the armed conflicts, the tragic fate of the nations involved in those confrontations, irreversible changes in the psychology of the people. The scale of social upheaval is observed in the destruction of the traditional way of life, destructive processes in the economy, worsening of financial situation of the population, famine and suffering of the millions of people. At the same time, the change in the minds of the people, the activation of charity, the national movements that catalyzed the formation of modern nation that transformed the nation from an object of the international politics into its immediate subject, contributed to the general impression of the book.
