On the 24-25 of October “Waste Management in Ukraine: law, economics, technology” Ecological Forum devoted to the problems of waste disposal and recycling was held at the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University. The importance of the issues can not be overemphasized in the modern technologies that are doing much harm to the environment. Our University has delegated their representatives to the west and that was particularly close and clear by the nature of environmental issues. The University scientists including Svitlana Sovgira, Professor, Roman Podzereya, the ecologist, Svitlana Lyulenko, the graduate participated in all the forum events.

The forum participants were welcomed by Oleg Proskuryakov, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Gennadiy Temnyk, the Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, Sergiy Volkov, the Senior Programme Manager of UNO in Ukraine, Tetiana Tymochko, the Head of the Ukrainian Ecological League, representatives of central and regional organizations.

During the plenary session the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Luhansk Regional State Administration, Luhansk Regional Council and large industrial enterprises in the field of environmental protection. This may be a good example for other communities of Ukraine.

The forum participants examined the basis of the newly built landfill and visited the reclaimed Luhansk solid waste landfill.

In addition to these events there were the presentations of "Disposal of batteries!" public environmental campaign, "Clean City" National Project, the bill "On Amendments to the Budget Code of Ukraine (concerning the tax on the manufacturers and importers of packaging and packaged goods for processing waste)" and “On amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine (concerning input tax on manufacturers and importers of packaging and packaged goods on processing waste).”

During the breakout meetings Svitlana Sovgira, the Professor made a report and the proposals of resolution of the forum were suggested. The report was focused on the experience in environmental activities in Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University and handling the solid waste in Uman.
