So many years exist mankind, so many they debate about a few matters among them is patriotism. In the list of human passions patriotism is inferior only to love. But patriotism is a kind of love. Patriotism is eternal appeal in all times and all the situations which unites nations, leads them forward, gives hope, defines aim and way. National idea, patriotism is considered as love and responsibility: love to your native land and responsibility for its fate and citizens’ happiness.

Uman youth demonstrated their own vision on patriotism, and took part in the competition of compositions, entitled “I’m a patriot”. The competition was held on the initiative of city council in family and youth matters with the aim of developing democratic values, understanding rights, social and cultural standards, creative abilities, raising level of patriotism. On the basis of DIAZ “Stara Uman” took place winners’ awarding ceremony on the 25th of November.

In their compositions participators showed their deep vision of patriotism, their indifferent attitude to the Ukrainians unity, nationwide idea and conciliarism. Deputy Head of Uman mayor, Lyudmyla Kyrylyuk greeted talented youth and said, “Love to Ukraine comes not only to embroidered shirts and national symbols. Everybody should ask himself: What have I done for Ukraine?”

Poetic and prosaic pieces of work on patriotism, current events in Ukraine were declared at the competiotion. Among 58 works were chosen 15, council of experts then defined 3 masterpieces, their authors were winners. We are glad that our student Euvgen Romanchuk won the third place, who had presented his work “Fame to Ukraine!”

Patriotism is formed and bred in early childhood as integral part of human character. The upbringing is grounded on language, history, culture, customs and traditions. We wish our prize winner strengthen his patriotism through actions, creativity and work.
