“He was the son of a peasant that won in the realm of the Spirit. He was a slave that became a giant in the realm of human culture”- these words by Ivan Franko became the leitmotif of “To You, our Kobzar, we bow our thanks!” literature evening held at the Economics Department of the University devoted to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko.

The fans of poetry of our national genius - students, faculty and guests gathered in the hall and managed to create a warm, sincere, genuine Ukrainian atmosphere. The initiators of the meeting tried to introduce this unusual spirit even in decoration of the room with the quotes from the works of Shevchenko, embroidered towels, embroidered clothes of the participants in the concert and themed pictures.


The participants of the literature evening enjoyed the poetry of Shevchenko. The poetic heritage of the national hero was echoed in the hearts of the contemporary generations - the current students recited his famous works: "And I grew up in a foreign land," "Fate," "No warmth". Those reciting the poetry impressed everyone with inspirational reciting of the verses by the great poet, immersing the audience in the vast world of his work. Indeed, the years pass, the generations change, but the true glory of Taras does not tarnish, it is equally relevant today as it was nearly two centuries ago. Taras Shevchenko is the Ukrainian national genius, the symbol of faith and truth of the Ukrainian people!

Besides, dozens of slides of photographs from the life of the poet were showed; the pictures illustrated every work of the poet.




Anastasia Tkachenko and Anna Konovalova, the sixth grade pupils of Uman City High School managed to light a fire in the hearts of the audience, to give all the participants an unforgettable experience and positive emotions reciting his works" The hireling", "The sun in a foreign country", "The princess", "The dream" "The lily" and others.


Simple, comprehensible and yet brilliant verses by the poet inspired the students to write their own poetry. Irina Kryvenko and Oleksandr Sobolewskiy, the participants of the literary evening presented their own amazing writings.



Loud applause of the audience sounded after each performance and the whole program of the literature evening was completed with the deep worship of memory of the great poet. The modern insight into the ethical attitudes of national prophet was the lesson of spiritual unity, another interesting research of its history and national culture. The patriotic enthusiasm and gratitude filled the hearts of all the participants of the festival: Taras Shevchenko is not only a poet of Ukraine but he is also the poet of all times, all ages of all people on earth.
