On December the 13th a monument to the Chernobyl accident casualties was erected in the city park near Uman Pedagogical College on Radyanska Street. This remarkable event took place on the day before the commemoration of the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident. The 14th of December is traditionally the day of commemoration of the people who lost their lives in the struggle with the terrible tragedy of the 20th century. This day has long been a sad reminder on the hard victory over the fire that had engulfed and destroyed the nuclear power plant reactor.

The representatives of USPU including the best students Olena Zharun and Ruslan Hodysko placed the flowers to the monument on behalf of the university staff.

The words "Chernobyl 1986" are written on the monument and a bell is placed on top of it. It was built jointly by patrons and the public and opened by Anton Yatsenko, the People's Deputy of Ukraine, Yury Bodrov, the Mayor, and Yuriy Berezovsky, the head of "Chernobyl Union" urban society.

This monument will be a reminder of the terrible accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the death toll of the liquidators. It would be nice if passing by the monument everyone remembered with gratitude all those who sacrificed their lives for the salvation of others due to the human error or irresponsibility. They passed away leaving a huge grief and sorrow in the hearts of their loved ones. Let them rest in peace!
