Celebration of an International Planetarium’s Day is connected with Italian Association of Planetariums, which initiated the holiday celebration in 1990. But it’s known that the first device similar to contemporary planetarium was created by German scientists in 1925 in Jena, where the first universal projector modul “Planetarium” was built.
In 1994 under support of French astronomers the Planetarium’s Day received a status of “internationa”. One year after this holiday began to celebrate in Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine.
There are at about 10000 planetariums all over the world, the champion in the amount of plateriums are the USA, where there more than 1000 of such laboratories. In our country there are planetariums in the following cities: Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Odesa, Cherkasy, and the biggest is situated in Kyiv. Dwellers of many regions should overcome considerable distance to visit such establishments. Uman dwellers are lucky, as our university gives an opportunity to present jouful moments; get aquainted with interesting, beautiful and mysterious World at the educational centre “Planetarium”.
The laboratory started its work in 2004. Since that time more than 14 thousand people visited it, among them: children of nursery schools, pupils of general education schools, students of different departments and universities, teachers, scientists. Students of Physics and Mathematics Department have an opportunity to study a mysterious science of astronomy in the modern study of celestial bodies.
Nowadays educational complex “Planetarium” expanded its activity: audiovisual lectures, practical and laboratory lessons in astronomy and adjoining sciences, educative excursions, educational and educative events, scientific and methodological conferences, seminars, astronomic observations are carried out here.
The last week the educational centre “Planetarium” visited first-year students of Primary Education Department. The excursion impressed the youth, as they got to know about the world of stars, saw the planets’ movement, parade of planes of the Solar System, they studied mathematic horizon, declination circle, celestial equator.
The idea of creation of university planetarium belongs to a doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor, head of Physics and Astronomy and their Teaching Methods Chair Mykhailo Martynyuk. In the project making up and realization took part a candidate of pedagogical sciences, assistant professor Igor Tkachenko (at present he is a director of the scientific and research laboratory, lecturers of Physics and Mathematics Department, university’s students and workers.
