On the 21st of March it is a day of vernal equinox, which is traditionally considered to be the first day of spring and the symbol of new beginnings; on this day World Wood Day is celebrated. At this day specilists discuss on wood’s problems, its ecological role and usage, wood resources utilization.

Our university students after the invitation of woodkeeper’s Petro Shevchuk of Sobkivskyi forestry “Uman wood agriculture” joined the nature protection action “Plant the Trees”, which took place in the framework of World Wood Day on the 25th of March. Second-year students of Natural Sciences and Geography Department together with “Ecos” group of pupils of Uman general education school 3 took part in planting seedling of European larch. In the action participated 40 people.

The action had 2 aims: 1) educational – to teach technology of planting larch, and 2) educative – to bring up love to nature, increase its riches.

The action was organized by workers of scientific and research laboratory “Ecology and education” (director – Ganna Goncharenko) and teachers of biology Tetyana Staschenko and Mykhailo Plyusch.

Owing to the action more than 3 thousands of seedlings of European larch were planted in 1.5 hectares of Sobkivskyi forestry.

The nature protection action “Plant the Trees” became a good tradition and united young people who care about fate of our land natural potential.

It is known that Ukraine takes the eighth place in Europe by wood’s area. But the global deforestation spreads so quickly, and it can lead to negative consequences. Therefore, it is very important to save forests nowadays and multiply green plantations. Let’s remember that the future of forests depends upon us.
