From June 2015 in Ukraine is being realized National Initiative Open Court. The project unites jurists and volunteers all over Ukraine who, by shooting judicial hearing, secure democratic problem solving in a court.

Participants of the project actively put a court reform into practice and shoot judicial hearing, expose instance of breaches of law, initiate and look for process of judge’s call to account. All the materials are available on the website of the organization and on YouTube or can be spread by million of citizens through social networks.

The initiative became possible after 28th of March when new Law of Ukraine “About ensuring the right for just court” came into effect. The law opens possibility to make photos, videos and audio records during judicial hearing.

A short-term aim of the project is to raise confidence in court, level of competency of advocates and public prosecutor. A long-term aim is to create court’s authority and improve state of justice in Ukraine.

Mechanism of achievement: intolerance to corruption, injustice and contemptuous attitude at a trial development; support of good judges and infringement of bad ones.

Instruments of achievement: making videos, spreading them in websites, social networks, community organizations; saving data and creation groups of reputation risks; appeal to juridical bodies for sanctions; monitoring of process of call to account; reporting results to community.

Principles of National Initiative Open Court activities:

§ We are specialists and we value our reputation;

§ We don’t take courts, prosecuting magistracy, legal practice’s side;

§ We don’t support scandals or ordered accusations.

Active members of National Initiative Open Court have already shot a lot of videos in courts of Ukraine, their activities were spread among national and foreign mass media. A lot of round tables and conferences dedicated to the matter took place.

National team of the project enlists 20 person. In general, there are 100 activists all over Ukraine. Director of the project “Open Court” is a human rights activist, candidate of juridical sciences Stanislav Batryn appeals people to collaborate with them.
