Recently, in Kyiv there was held a meeting of the “New generation school teacher” project working group with Sergiy Kvit (Minister of Education and Sciences of Ukraine) and British Council in Ukraine Administration. In the meeting took part 8 Ukrainian universities project participators. The international organization represented British Council in Azerbaijan director Elizabeth Wight, British Council in Ukraine acting director Nataliya Yakovenko, British Council Educational Programmes regional manager Jerry Mackintosh, Norwich Language Education Institute director and project advisor Rod Bolayto, project coordinators Viktoria Ivanishcheva and Oleksandr Shalenko. In the meeting took part Foreign Languages Department representatives Oxana Zabolotna, Alla Gembaruk, and Olena Bevz.

All the participators discussed problems in the English teacher training system and expressed their opinion on perspectives and possibilities of further cooperation. First of all, the problem of state standard of English teacher training for bachalor and master levels working out was considered. The acting standard loses its validity this year.

Meeting participators informed the Minister on new state standard intoduction in the subject “Methods of teaching of foreign languages” which would be based on all-round, interactive and practical training. The programme would take into consideration needs of children with special needs, anticipate skills integration, and apply social and cultural components in the languages studying.

Minister of Education and Sciences of Ukraine, Sergiy Kvit, reassured project partners that Ministry of Education and Sciences in Ukraine would support this programme piloting and realization (during 2015-2016 academic year). In its turn, British Council expressed readiness to work under the project “New generation school teacher” development and thanked for the official support.
