Polish cultural and educational centre of Uman State Pedagogical University unites students who like the Polish language, history and culture.

Ukrainian Philology Department students, who study in specialty “Polish”, get to know about Polish traditions and customs at the lesson of “Countries studies”. On the eve of catholic Christmas lecturers of Polish doctor Pjotr Pizel and Kateryna Kuzan together with the students of the 23rd group reproduced Polish traditions, connected with Holy Eve (in Poland – Wigilia). It is considered to be he most beautiful and important day of a year. Before Holy Eve had names of Postnyk, Wilia, and at last – Wigilia. In the eastern part of Poland this evening is called Kutia, as the main dish is kutya with poppy, honey and wheat.

In the Polish cultural and educational centre, where the event took place, was real friendly and domestic atmosphere. When the first star appeared in the sky, everybody sat down to dinner. Among a lot of Polish traditional dishes prepared by students there was kutya as the main symbol of Wigilia. The teachers congratulated students on the upcoming holidays. Everybody present wished each other goodness, health and well-being in the next year. During the merry Holy Eve teachers and students were singing Polish Christmas carols. In the end of the meeting they watched one of the best Polish romantic comedies “Letters to M” (Listy do M). It tells about 5 different stories, which took place in Warsaw in Holy Eve. Miracles of this evening influence lives of the heroes and change it, because it is impossible to run off the holidays.
