September the 2d marked an important event - the celebration of the opening of the Kaniv Institute of Humanities at Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University.

The Institute was established according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine "On additional measures to prepare for and celebrate the 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko" and the relevant Order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, with the active support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Cherkasy Regional State Administration and Regional Council.

Honorable guests attended the ceremony: Sergiy Tulub, Head of Cherkasy Regional State Administration, Hero of Ukraine. Besides, there were district and city administrators, deputies of regional, district and city councils, representatives of rural communities, teachers and parents.

In the street one could hear the solemn music performed by the brass band; a banner "Investing in education is investing into the future” attracted everyone’s attention.

The main guest of the festival was Sergiy Tulub, the Head of Cherkasy Regional State Administration, Hero of Ukraine. He addressed the audience with a welcoming speech: "We have a double holiday today – the opening ceremony of the new Institute in Kaniv and the freshmen ceremony. Be proud that you are the first students of Kaniv Institute of Humanities. Opening this Institute is a good investment of the authorities into the development of education and science, direct implementation of the President's Decree about celebrating the 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko." Sergiy Borysovych thanked the Rector Natalia Pobirchenko for the great efforts of the University due to which the newly established Institute could complete the licensing of the specialties and efficiently admit the freshmen in a good time. Today sets the beginning of the Institute life.

Natalia Pobirchenko, the Rector of the University, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine was the first to speak at the ceremony. Natalia S. congratulated the students, faculty and staff of the Institute on the Knowledge Day and the beginning of the academic year, expressed her gratitude to the President of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Sergiy Tulub, the Head of Cherkasy Regional State Administration for the high trust, support and promotion of the formation of Kaniv Institute of Humanities as part of the University, because without those great people this event would not have happened.

The Rector expressed her belief that the creation of Kaniv Institute of Humanities would be another step towards the due respect for Taras Shevchenko - the national genius of Ukraine. And she assured the audience that the University would make every effort to fulfill its mission.

This day was especially exciting for those who first opened the door of the institution. The new team of students received an Order-commandment on behalf of the undergraduate students. And the Master students presented each freshman with the immortal "Kobzar" by Taras Shevchenko in the memory of this great day and expressed the wish that all students should follow the guidance of the wise words of our great poet:

"Love your Ukraine.
Love it even at the fiercest times,
pray to God for your Ukraine till the last minute of ordeal. "

To the sounds of the “Gaudeamus” ancient hymn of students the freshmen were handed the symbolic Student Card and Key to Knowledge.

And then, there comes the most solemn moment – Sergiy Tulub, the Head of the Regional Administration, Hero of Ukraine, Natalia Pobirchenko, the Rector of the University, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, and Victor Tykhomyr, the Director of the Kaniv Institute of Humanities, Candidate of historical sciences cut the symbolic ribbon and open Kaniv Institute of Humanities at Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University.

This festive event was concluded with "Our great and only God" spiritual anthem of Ukraine performed by the choir. The joy of all the audience gave a wave of applause filling the square, and the sky was filled with many colorful balloons that took the dreams freshmen in heaven.
