The Famine was a terrible tragedy for the Ukrainian people. In the historical literature there is no consensus on the causes of the famine of 1932 - 1933. The Soviet historiography denied the existence of famine, and millions of peasant victims called it “an invention of the nationalists”.

Currently it is commonly known that the famine of 1932 - 1933 is a massive famine deliberately organized by the Soviet authorities and resulting in multiple losses of life in rural areas in the Ukrainian SSR.

A series of events dedicated to the eve of the 80th anniversary of the genocide of 1932 - 1933 was taking place at the History Department.

On November the 18th "We remember" campaign has started to commemorate the victims of the Famine- Genocide of 1932-1933. The 4th year students and the curators of academic groups distributed leaflets on activities scheduled at the History Department for the purpose of commemorating the victims of the Famine.

The students encouraged everyone to remember the history and not be indifferent.

"Silent truth of the history" photo exhibition has proven once again that the famine was an artificially planned action aimed at destruction and elimination of the Ukrainian nation! Because the hungry and exhausted people are not able to act and resist it is easier to conquer them. Today our task is to find out about all the dark pages of history and never let this happens again. The exhibition presents 80 photos taken from the documentary archival sources by the eyewitnesses who survived in the famine of 1932-1933.

The exhibition is divided into four thematic parts. The first part "Ukraine before the Famine" proves that there could be no possibility of natural famine in Ukraine in the early twentieth century. The famine of 1932-1933 was artificially created by the Soviet authorities. The second part “The factors and causes of the Famine" highlights the factors of the Famine: the destruction of the national Ukrainian spirit and Ukrainian peasant class, the formation of the collective farm system and so on. Also, this part clearly shows the geography of famine. The third part of the exhibition "The mechanism of formation of the Famine", and the fourth one being "The recognition and perception of the Famine in the world."

"Message of the memory" campaign which was held on November the 19th at the Dean's Office of the History Department and lasted throughout the day was dedicated to the national commemoration of the victims of the Famine- Genocide of 1932-1933. On the eve of the 80th anniversary the historians have made a poster on which all the guests could leave their message to the people who will remember the Famine in twenty years on its hundredth anniversary.

On November the 20th there was the "Famine of 1932-1933 is remembered in Ukraine and recognized in the world!” evening requiem. During the event details of the causes, severity and consequences of the famine were spoken about.

The historians have created the presentation material and selected the information about the events of that tragic time, recited a poem about the tragic fate of our people, cited the comments of the foreigners and contemporary politicians about the situation in Ukraine. During the event the students characterized the effects of famine in Uman and watched the documentary film "The Bread Guillotine.”

In conclusion, "Candle of Memory" was lit and the victims of the Famine were honored by the moment of silence.
