In 1992, UN General Assembly proclaimed the 3rd of December as the International Day of Disabled Persons following the UN Decade of Disabled Persons (1983-1992). The decade was a period of growth and awareness of measures aimed at improving the lives of persons with disabilities, giving equal opportunities to them.

Our state also observes the International Day of Disabled Persons. The purpose of the event is to draw attention to the problems of those who became disabled from birth, during childhood or adulthood. Various charity events, festivals, conferences and competitions are held every year to strengthen social assistance to disabled persons.

Students of Social and Psychological Education Department organized an action "The world by eyes of the disabled person" in order to awake sympathy for people with disabilities and show that everyone can be in such situation. The aim of this event (for students and lecturers) was to undergo a series of tests, not using one of the senses: to find a specific classroom blind-folded, to flip a book without hands, etc. Then there was discussion about the feelings of participants while performing such actions.

Observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons is an honor of society and reminding about disabled persons who need to be protected and supported in such difficult time. A disabled person is not just a category of people. He has individual life and tragedy, human hopes for everything to be good.

Today, two million of our citizens are disabled (every eighteenth of our countrymen). Being imbued with routine problems, we should think about difficult fate of people with disabilities. We shouldn't forget that disabled persons live among us, and they need our help and attention not just on December 3 but all the time.
