Today, on the 202nd anniversary from Taras Shevchenko’s birthday, representatives of our university together with the patriots from Uman commemorated a prominent Ukrainian poet, painter, prose writer and playwright.

In front of the monument to a famous poet, situated near Ostashivskiy pond, was held a solemn flowers laying upon. His speech on genius of the Ukrainian nation made mayor of the city Oleksandr Tsebriy, who announced, “Taras Shevchenko belongs to great humanity titans, who require neither compliments nor fame, because it is them who praise us with the help of their talent and unsubdued spirit. Students and lecturers of the university together with authority, community and veterans representatives laid upon wreaths and flowers in national colours.

Then there were held plenty of cultural and educational events. In the central city square was held Shevchenko’s reading, in which participated students from our university. Yulduz Oktamova was reciting a poem “A cherry garden near a small house”, Olena Manziuk - “Lily”, Anastasia Shrurenko – a poem “Lights are on, music is playing”, Natalia Yudchenko – “A cold ravine”, Vitaliy Slobodianyk and Daria Kraynova – fragments from the poem “Haydamaks”.
