Folklore practice plays an important role in the system of teacher training because folk culture of Cherkasy region is studied during this period. This summer 11th group of Ukrainian Philology Department went to Sharyn village, Uman district. The supervisor of the practice was Valentina Goncharuk, associate professor at Ukrainian Literature and Ukrainian studies Chair.

The current members of folklore practice, performing educational, professional and scientific objectives and studying Ukrainian folklore, met with Anna Danylivna Kravchuk, (born on 1928), who spoke about ritual customs and supporting verbal songs. She also described the relationship between folklore and folk embroidery art.


In the village ancient Ukrainian art of folk songs is zealously preserved. Here national amateur ensemble "Krynychenka" is functioning, and its members not only promote Ukrainian folk song, but also are engaged in folklore research work. Thus, it was extremely nice and helpful for students to meet with Volodymyr I. Maydanyuk and Olga I. Maydanyuk, members of the village folk group, who not just demonstrated the folk song peculiarities in Sharyn village, but told students a lot of interesting of proverbs, sayings and riddles.



The results of folklore practice will be presented in research laboratory "Ethnology of Cherkasy region" (Head - Professor Natalia P. Syvachuk) as the main goal of the laboratory work is to preserve folklore and ethnographical masterpieces in Uman region and to create historical and ethnographic handbook of Uman city.
