Annualy research laboratory “Ecology and Education” (Natural Sciences and Geography Department of USPU) initiates actions for small rivers cleaning. This time the attention was centered around the river Soroka (affluent of Southern Buh) which flows past village Soroka. Under the leadership of professor of our university Svitlana Sovgira was organized environmental protection action “Cleanness of Small Riversides”. The aim of the action was drawing societal attention to the problems of small rivers pollution, maintaining the cleanness of their riversides, and population ecology consciousness formation.

The action joined the lecturers and professors of Natural Sciences and Geography Department. Among them: PhD in Biology, Associate Professor at Biology teaching techniques chair Igor Krasnoshtan, scientific assistant-worker Nataliya Dushechkina, PhD student Vadym Chobotarsky, worker of USPU local trade union committee Larysa Dereschuck and teacher of ecology at interschool educational and industrial complex of Illinetsk district, Vinnytsia region Oleksandra Dykovska. Rural Council helped a lot by providing participators of the environmental protection action with sufficient equipment and organizing removal of rubbish.

There was a lot of work, but owing to successive work of action organizators and volunteers a great part of the river was cleaned from a large amount of waste products which were sorted out and utilized.

The conducted action is an attempt to make a real contribution to environmental protection and the only way to preserve the small river, maintaining its riverside clean.
