"Development of national and linguistic identity in the modern educational environment" scientific and practical conference was held as part of activities to mark the Day of Science in cooperation with "Formation of national and linguistic identity in terms of lifelong learning" scientific and methodological center. Representatives of Ukrainian Philology Department, Primary Education, Preschool and Remedial Education Departments were present at the conference.

The conference was started by Lidia Mamchur, the Director of the scientific and methodological center, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor. She reinforced that formation of a linguistic identity was an important direction of the modern linguistics. The conference participants also listened to the speech of Olena Yaroshynska, the Vice-Rector for Research, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor.


The conference discussed the current issues of national and linguistic identity and resolving the problems like "development of national and linguistic identity: a retrospective review and current status", "competence approach to language and literary education", "priority areas of modern linguistics", "cultural and linguistic specifics of phonetics, lexicology and grammar of the Ukrainian language", "tradition and innovation in the national and foreign linguistics."



The teachers and students of Ukrainian Philology Department were active participants of the conference. The following teachers made impressive reports: Oksana Zelinska, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Chair of Ukrainian Language and methods of teaching ("History of Ukrainian literary language as a basis for the formation of national and linguistic identity"); Tetiana Grygorenko, the Director of the Scientific Library, Ph.D., Associate Professor of practical linguistics ("conceptual picture of the world in the language identity of an individual"); Inna Snigur, the senior teacher of the Chair of Ukrainian language and literature ("Ukrainian national rhetoric and its influence in shaping of the culture of a philologist student "). The speeches of students of Maryna Rebriy, Ketryna Tyshko, Natalia Korzhynetska were also interesting and valuable.

Overall, the conference participants discussed the questions of language education reform that increased the need for teachers of the new formation capable of dealing with different types of professional pedagogical situations, mastering various techniques of communication, showing deep creative thinking and innovation culture, generating new ideas. Therefore, the conference stressed the need to find and implement the optimal ways of forming linguistic identity as a cornerstone task of modern education policy in the country.
