Cherkasy Obast celebrated the 60th anniversary. The social events were held in the "Friendship of Peoples" Palace. Konstantyn Gryshchenko, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, the former regional authorities and delegations from several foreign countries congratulated the Oblast on its anniversary. The event was attended by Serhiy Tulub, the Chairman of Regional State Administration, Hero of Ukraine, Valeriy Chernyak, the Head of the regional council, heads of district and local veteran organizations, veterans of war.

The delegation of USPU was headed by Natalia Pobirchenko, the Rector of Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University, Professor, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, corresponding member of NAPS of Ukraine, Volodymyr Kuz, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Academician of NAPS of Ukraine, Head of the "Vasil Sukhomlinsky and School XXI century " Research Laboratory, Tetiana Kochubey, the Vice Rector for Research and Education, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Maria Kraeva, a Master student, the winner of the III International linguistic and literary contest named after T.G. Shevchenko.


In his speech Serhiy Tulub, the Governor of Cherkasy Oblast dwelled on the important role of Cherkasy region in the national and world history. He said "... our land is a unique place in Ukraine. The famous people and events of Cherkasy Oblast are often mentioned in the history of our country. Here the Cossack spirit was formed. It is the land of the great wisdom of Bogdan Khmelnytsky and artistic genius of Taras Shevchenko. Hundreds of talented people have glorified the Cherkasy land. Today, the greatest wealth of Cherkasy region is its people – the hardworking, friendly, sensitive, immensely talented and true patriots of their native land. " The Chairman thanked the residents of the area for the progress in the development of regional economy, in particular, the farmers for a remarkable harvest of grain, the teachers for the talented students, the doctors for the numerous lives saved, the youth for the victories.

During the solemn assembly Serhiy Tulub, the Chairman of Regional State Administration, Hero of Ukraine, Valeriy Chernyak, the Head of the regional council handed 85 national and regional awards to the individuals who glorified the Cherkassy region and made ??a significant contribution into its development and prosperity.

Among the people awarded there were Natalia Pobirchenko, the Rector of Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University, Maria Kraeva, a Master student, the winner of the III International linguistic and literary contest named after T.G. Shevchenko who were awarded with "Cherkasy Oblast '60 ' commemorative plates and Mykola Lysenko, the teacher of Kaniv College of Culture and Arts of Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University was given the honorary title of "Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine".




During the celebration in the "Friendship of Peoples" palace an album and a towel symbolizing the regional relay for the anniversary of Cherkasy Oblast were displayed. It is worth mentioning that during 4 days starting from June the 4, 2013 the Uman residents had been filling the album of history of Uman city, its achievements and outstanding figures. Natalia Mamchur, a famous handcraft master, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Ukrainian literature and Ukraine studies embroidered the special piece of the 26 -meter long towel. She depicted an element of embroidery of the old Cossack times - a traditional ornament of our country looking like a broken branch similar to that of human DNA, also, some colorful leaves and flower broke into blossom on the towel. That was great!


The festive and entertaining program was continued by the professional performers like pop stars Ivan Popovych, Peto Chorniy and Natalia Buchynska in the regional Philharmonic.

We would like to hope that the historic milestone of 60 will provide a new impetus for the inspiring work of the Oblast and the whole Ukraine.

The 60 -year history of the youngest in Ukraine Cherkasy Oblast began on January the 7, 1954, since the decree of its creation as part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic was signed by Klyment Voroshylov, the Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. The newly established region centered in Cherkasy included three cities of regional subordination: ??Cherkasy, Smila, Uman and 30 districts of Kiev, Poltava, Kirovohrad and Vinnitsa Oblats.
