On the 8th of June the city celebrated the "French Spring in Uman”– a festival of French culture taking place in the "Uman as a Cultural Capital of Ukraine" cultural and artistic project launched by Anton Yatsenko, the People’s Deputy of Ukraine.

Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University, including the Foreign Languages Department ??(Dean - Nadiya Brit) has taken an active part in the festival.

One could enjoy the romantic French language. This time the University students had a lot of interesting creative ideas: Dmytro Romanenko performed a fragment of "It's time to build churches" aria by Gringoire from the French musical Notre Dame de Paris (Notre-Dame de Paris), Anatoliy Ocheretyaniy performed the monologue by Phoebus “Torn between the two women that I love " and Olga Kulkova performed "He is shining like the sun" - the monologue of Esmeralda.

The audience watched the theatrical performance based on modern remix of "Beauty and the Beast” («La Belle et La Bete») Charles Perrault's fairy tale (Directed by Olena Komar), the French dance (Choreographer-director Anastasya Kryvorotenko) and French folk song performed by Yana Melnyk. Our hosts Yulya Melnyk and Petro Shapoval were the shining stars of jolly mood and positive emotions.

On the basis of this project the Uman Art Gallery opened an exhibition of photographs by Robert Doisneau (Robert Doisneau) – the world known French master of humanist photography of the last century. The exhibition was organized by Anton Yatsenko – a People’s Deputy of Ukraine. Now every resident or visitor of the city will be able to read the works of Monsieur Doisneau. His special way of portraying life of his favorite city was modest, playful and ironic, a snatch from the daily hustle and bustle of funny coincidences, unexpected contrasts and sometimes bizarre antics so close to the heart of every one of us. His works are warm and humane...

The highlight of the celebration was the final of the French Spring festival at which Anton Yatsenko promised to place the symbol of France - a miniature Eiffel Tower in the city park as a memory of the French culture festival in Uman.
