In 2015 Ukraine began to celebrate a new state holiday – Day of Defender of Ukraine. It was decided to celebrate on 14th of October to commemorate heroism of defenders of independency and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The holiday, which is celebrated on the 14th of October, is also a holiday of Protection of the Mother of God. The second name is Cossacks Protection (Day of Ukrainian Cossacks).

Both Protection of the Mother of God Day and Day of Ukrainian Cossacks and from now on Day of Defender of Ukraine are close to our hearts as Ukrainian people love peace. Ukrainians love their houses, families, native land and country, that’s why they defended it in different times.

History Department organized and conducted a student scientific round table in military and political history of Ukraine “Courage and bravery through generations”.

Day of Defender of Ukraine is connected with development of forces and military traditions. Traditions play an important part in life of society and life of individuals. On their basis are created moral ideals, principles, beliefs and norms, manifestation of love is in readiness to protect native land even by cost of own life.

During work of round table was discussed a problem of history of Ukrainian forces. Andriy Gedzyck told about historical roots of soldiers’ commemoration on Protection of the Mother of God Day. Antonina Bondarchuk revealed history of fightings in Kholodnyi Yar.

Participants of the round table also mentioned women, who took an active part in protection of Motherland. This topic was prolonged by report of Karina Solodukha “Female Face of War”.

Oleg Batrak informed the audience on history of volunteer movement. Oleg also mentioned that students of History Department participate in volunteering and remembered all the charity actions of students.

Anzhela Grytsyna, Natalia Kaminska and Alyona Magruck prepared information on heroism of soldiers, tragism of war in Ukrainian national and contemporary songs.

In the end of discussion moderator, lecturer at History of Ukraine Chair Igor Opatskyi summed up results of round table and delivered certificates.

Charity demonstration of the film “Volunteers from God” was organized by Student Council of History Department.

In the film were depicted military days and heroism of volunteers- “cybers” who protected Donnetsk airport.

After the film, the head of volunteer movement development (History Department) Myroslava Stetsenko organized a charity duties for purchase of costumes for soldiers.

Students of Professional and Technology Education Department watched film and made a contribution for soldiers’ costumes. They also organized an event dedicated to Day of Defender of Ukraine – “Cossacks amusement”.

Merry atmosphere demonstrated boys in competitions in history, traditions and customs of Cossacks. The competitions were held between teams “Dzura”, “Fountain”, “Falcon”, and “Amulet”. The strongest team turned out to be “Amulet”. In the intermission sang a song “Autumn” a third-year student Maksym Yarovyi.

Foreign Languages Department organized educational event, dedicated to Day of Defender of Ukraine. Students discussed problems of history of the following dates: 6th of December (Day of Armed Forces of Ukraine” and 23rd of February (Day of Defender of the Motherland). In the end of the event the students passed a test “Military Vocabulary. How much do YOU know?”

There was a festival dedicated to Day of Defender of Ukraine, which was held at Preschool and Correction Education Department.

On the occasion of the holiday students of 12th group at Ukrainian Philology Department participated in academic supervisor’s educational event (academic supervisor – assistant professor Zoya Komarova).

Vladyslav Koliada and Leonid Motsnyi told about history of the holiday. Girls joined and congratulated everybody on the holiday (author of the idea – Natalia Goliaka).

This year Day of Defender of Ukraine has a particular motto – “Strength of unsubdued”. It is about Ukrainian boys and men – brave, courageous and unsubdued. They protect our country’s independence and territorial integrity”.

Girls also congratulated their group mates-boys. They wished them courage, health, success and optimism. Girls presented the boys sweets.

Social and Psychological Education Department organized an action “Write a letter to a soldier”. During 3 days students were writing letters to our defenders and up to the end there were a lot of them.

The results of the competition “I will write a letter to a soldier”, in which took part 12 group students at Ukrainian Philology Department (academic supervisor – assistant professor Zoya Komarova).

In the competition participated 14 students, who were frankly amazed by courage and bravery of defenders of Ukraine, they expressed their gratitude, support, faith and belief in better future of our country.

The competition had won Maryna Korol (I place), Anna Savchenko (II place), Daria Kuyan, Tetyana Feschenko, Sofia Kharenko (III place).
