This year in Ukraine is celebrated 150th anniversary since State Anthem first performing and 200 anniversary of State Anthem author Mykhailo Verbytskyi’s birthday.

On this occasion was held cultural and artictic action “We’re united, we’re strong!” which took place on the 10th of March at Uman central square. Students and lecturers of Uman State Pedagogical University, student youth of Uman, members of community organisations and corporations participated in the action.

The welcoming speech was made by city mayor Oleksandr Tsebriy; he accentuated that owing to civic position, we’ll have free and united state. He appealed to everybody to get united for the sake of independent and democratic Ukraine.

The artistic event was prolonged by performance of trio “Gonta”, members of which are Honorary Cultural Workers of Ukraine, university lecturers Valentyn Kupchyk, Vasyl Semenchuk, and Petro Voloshyn. The words from the song “Trident is a freedom” glorify one of the State Symbols of Ukraine, i.e. National Anthem, a trident which symbolizes freedom, strength and fame of our nation.

Good mood was created by students who study in specialty “Choreography” with patriotic youth flash mob “My Ukraine!”.

In the end of the action all the present – both small children and adults – were singing together: “Ukraine's glory and freedom have not yet perished…”.

The national Anthem is an organic part of our history, Ukrainian nation’s spirit, symbol of struggle for native land independence. Symbols of Ukraine, inscriptions “Ukraine is free”, “Fame to the nation”, “Ukraine is above everything”, “Fame to heroes”, “Ukraine is united”, “Peace for Ukraine” on blue and yellow plates and joint anthem’s performing demonstrated people’s striving for uniting.

Reference.

The Ukrainian Anthem was written in the beginning of autumn of 1862 by Ukrainian ethnographer, folklorist and poet Pavlo Chubinsky (an author of the poem), and set to music by a priest Mykhailo (Verbitsky). The public performance of the song was held on the 10th of March 1865 in Peremyshl during the first Shevchenko’s concert in the Western part of Ukraine.

Chubinsky’s poem and Verbitsky’s music received status of State Anthem of Independent Ukraine on the 15th of January 1992.
