On the 29th of January, 1918 there was a symbolic event in Ukrainian history which became a part of genetic memory of Ukrainian people. This symbol is Kruty!

Near station, situated in Chernihiv region alongside Bakhmach-Kyiv has been written one of the historical pages, which nowadays inspires patriots and public characters. This date is very important for the Ukrainians; it’s a part of our past.

There even exists a belief that Ukrainian nation development goes back to Kruty events. With the name of a small station is connected a starting point of the nation’s formation and it is still a symbol for generations of fighters for freedom and independence, our own Ukrainian state.

In the framework of campaign “Remember about Kruty” USPU joined the commemoration of killed heroes. All the present at the city rally honoured by a minute of silence memory of the Ukrainian youth who died in unequal fight. On the occasion of 96th anniversary of Kruty battle a new monument is placed, the opening of which has been made by Uman students. Among them was our university head of Student Council Daria Mekhova.

… Mykhailo Grushevskyi opposed students who died near Kruty to people who proclaimed neutrality in the civil war: “It’s a happiness to die fighting unlike deserters, neutral cowards who wants to get freedom for free”.

The battle near Kruty is one of the most important topics in Ukrainian history, which is accepted as a great historical event. The battle near Kruty has a big significance and is meaningful for identity of the Ukrainians.
