On August 15 we celebrate the Archaeology day. USPU students-freshmen of the History Department have been nvolved into its celebration (supervisor Kateryna Didenko). They had an archaeological practice, working as part of Trypillian archaeological expedition, organized by the Institute of Archaeology of NAS of Ukraine and SHCP "Trypillian culture».

Summer season of 2016 took place in the Trypillian settlement-giant «Talyanky», which is located in Talne district. Archaeologists led by Ph.D. in History Oleksiy Korvin-Piotrovskyi studied the remains of habitation and pottery kilns.

Students also learned that the largest settlement of Trypillian civilization is over 5000 years. At that times, from 6 to 25 thousand people inhabited there. The results of geomagnetic surveys indicate that the settlement numbered from 1500 to 2800 buildings arranged in concentric circles. This is the largest of the known Trypillian settlements. Its area - 450 hectares. Archeological dig of Trypillian settlements started in 1981.

The project manager Oleksiy Korvin-Piotrovskyi mentioned that archaeologists have found accommodation with unique architectural details - the floor and the altar. Scientists for the first time found that people had left the house and taken an oven - a symbol of family hearth. It was found a pot, which probably served as a family talisman.

Archaeological practice is the first one for students-historians. Anastasiya Neholyuk shares her impressions: ‘When we were told that the practice will become one of the best memories of all student life, I hardly believed in it. What could be interesting in digging the ground and washing the dishes? But everything was not in that way. First of all, I want to say about the people with whom we work. They are wonderful, because only thanks to them our hard work as archaeologists became a permanent holiday’.

The students expressed their gratitude to such tutors-archaeologists as Eduard Ovchinnikov, Vladyslav Chabanyuk and Oleksiy Korvin-Piotrovskyi for teaching them their craft and "made them real archaeologists".

Expedition work is covered in the media. In particular, on the occasion of the Independence Day, UA: FIRST Channel will broadcast video about Archeological dig at "Talyanky", where our students took active part.
