During 2015 Ukraine commemorates at state level a metropolitan of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Andrey Sheptytsky. As a metropolitan, Sheptytsky saved life of many people, persecuted by totalitarian regime. As a member of Galician Seym, he stood up for freedom of Ukraine, accentuated the necessity of opening new Ukrainian schools and Ukrainian University.

Members of Student Scientific Circle (director: head of History of Ukraine Chair, assistant professor Mariya Rogozha) organized celebration “Andrey Sheptytsky: a Great Unknown” to honour the metropolitan. They found information on cultural, educational, scientific and political activity of the metropolitan. The reports were followed by multimedia presentations and video fragments.

Sergiy Glyvenko made an interesting on-line excursion “By roads of archbishop” and showed cities and countries visited by Andrey Sheptytsky. The excursion began with the Sheptytsky’s home in the village of Prylbychi (in Lviv region), and continued to the cities of Krakow, Vienna, Munich, Kyiv, St. Petersburg, included the following countries: Belgium, Holland, Great Britain, USA, Brazil, Argentina, Italy and Austria. Visiting these countries, the archbishop defended rights and interests of Ukrainians. The excursion was ended with visiting St. Yura Cathedral and monument to Sheptytsky, opened in Lviv in 2015.

The participators of the event touched upon problem of metropolitan pursuing by occupation authorities, his position during First and Second World Wars, rescue of Jews, etc.

Dean of History Department, professor Tetyana Kuznets thanked the students for their participation in honour evening and delivered them certificates.

In the end was performed a spiritual hymn of Ukraine “Pray for Ukraine” (words – Oleksandr Konysky, music – Mykola Lysenko.
