Inexhaustible source of knowledge of natural phenomena, the venue for educational, scientific and training work of Natural Sciences and Geography Department students is the university agrarian station. With a long history of its formation and development, it has always been a unique center of fundamental research, inspiration ideas and scientific work of famous scientists. And now agrarian station serves as one of the most important parts of the practical training of students of natural sciences specialties and more than 80 years invariably remains the basis of scientific research.

Teaching and research departments of practical training of students

Territory of agrarian station, (about 12 hectares), is widely used as a venue for field research, which involves leading scientific institutions of Ukrainian NAS and NAAS. In particular, there are Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics, I. Shmalgauzen Institute of Zoology, Institute of Agroecology, M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden, Symyrenko Institute of Horticulture, Institute of Root Crop Culture, national park "Sofiyivka" and Uman National University of Horticulture.

Thanks to concluded agreements on creative collaboration with the Institutes, the agrarian station provides candidates and doctoral theses of the Department’s lecturers, including S. Sorokina "Selective phytotoxicity of herbicides during its complex use in soybeans crops", G. Drozdenko "Link of phenotypic traits of soybean symbiotic effectiveness with physiological and biochemical characteristics of strains of TN mutant B. japonicum”, S. Grabovska "Species composition and ecological characteristics of predatory mites-phytoseids in plant associations of urboekosystems", N. Gnatyuk "Allelopathic characteristics of certain types of aromatic plants", R. Yakymchuk "Factors of spontaneous and anthropogenic mutagenic pollution of environment". Three patents were received according to the research results.

Collaboration with the Department of genetic improvement of plants and symbiotic nitrogen fixation department of Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics, Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences is very important. Department’s students supervised by the director of the Institute, academician of Ukrainian NAS, Hero of Ukraine Volodymyr V. Morgun and deputy director in scientific work, professor Sergiy Ya. Kots have been conducting the experiments in the university training areas for 8 years. Study of genetic effects of radiation and chemical pollution, the search for new genotypes to create highly productive and ecologically plastic varieties of winter wheat, analysis of the nature of inheritance of rare mutations plants, study the effectiveness of symbiotic interaction newly made transpozants of tuberous bacteria, search of herbicidal compositions of low residual phytotoxicity - is not the whole list of scientific issues based on the university agrarian station.

Agrarian station is also a scientific basis for contractual themes "Varieties studying, testing and seeding of winter crops" and "Organizational and economic principles of technologies of high-quality gardening products development". The research objects are winter crops, orchard of intensive type in different rootstock combinations.

The place of national and aesthetic education of youth is a self-created museum "Plants-symbols of Ukraine", which is improved in the light of the traditions and heritage of the Ukrainians.

This year agrarian station is added by lilac avenue laid by leading scientists of Ukraine on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of teaching and research laboratory "Ecology and Education". The director of I. Shmalgauzen Institute of Zoology, corresponding member of Ukrainian Academy of Sciences I. A. Akimov was presented at that celebration.
