According to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from the 9th to 14th of December Ukraine celebrates a week of justice. Therefore, USPU has been holding a number of events during this time.

During the week the students were meeting with the law enforcement representatives. The Legal Clinic in room 308 provided the legal assistance with the help of Iryna Nizhenska, Vasyl Geiko, Oksana Mitya, Inna Koval, the teachers of the Chair of Economics and Law from the Economics Department.


Department of Economics and Law was holding "Ensuring execution" legal contest. The representatives of Uman city district department of justice, teachers and students of Economics Department were participating in it. During the event the legal condition of the modern city district state administration of justice and development of the individual sectors was discussed. Volodymyr Timchenko, a representative of the Department of Justice was speaking about it. His colleague Volodymyr Tesychenko paid a special attention to the following main tasks of the Department of Justice: protection of the rights and freedoms of the citizens in a particular field of activity, observation of the laws of the State Register of taxation on movable property, the State Register of Mortgages, the National Legal Register, the State Register of civil status of citizens and the Unified Register of community groups, organizational support and coordination of the state executive service of civil registration and other bodies and institutions of justice, implementation of major tasks defined by the Ministry of Justice, the Department of Justice in Cherkasy Oblast, monitoring the activities of the judicial authorities for improvement of the efficiency of their work.

"The defense right in the criminal proceedings" round table with the participation of lecturers of the Department of Economics and Law was taking place on December the 10th. Ruslan Dashytskyy, the leading lawyer Uman, teachers and students of economics attended this scientific event. The meeting was discussing the issue of human rights in the criminal process, namely the adoption of the new Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, the tasks of the new Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, the main points of the law and general characteristics, regulatory framework and its status in this field of legal regulation. The roundtable participants reviewed the legal and scientific approaches to the protection of individual rights (including the suspect, the accused) in the criminal proceedings in Ukraine. The pointless chaotic amendments and additions to the new Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine were also taken into consideration. There was a dispute. In general, the participants showed interest in the discussion of scientific and legal events.

"Human rights and freedoms of the citizens of Ukraine" roundtable was held on December the 11th at the History Department. The meeting was organized by Tetiana Kuznets, the Dean of the Department and the staff of the Legal Clinic of the University. Opening remarks were provided by Vasyl Pidlisniy, the Director of Legal Clinic, Legal Adviser, lecturer in world history and law. The meeting provided the students with a lot of useful and interesting information. The participants exchanged interesting ideas.

"Law and legislation first of all" was the motto of the legal contest held at the History Department. Tetiana Rodik and Oleksiy Olyeynichuk, the teachers of the World History and Law Department (who developed an action plan for a nationwide Week of Law) prepared interesting questions and legal problems for students to think about. Three team members, the future teachers of history and law have shown a high level of erudition. After an intense intellectual struggle "Mihnovtsi" team became the winner.


A round table dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was held with the assistance of the Department of World History and Jurisprudence and Legal Clinic of the University. The event was attended by Vasyl Splodytel, the Chief Expert on the legal education of the public, the Head of the legal office of public aid of Uman City District Office of Justice, the teachers of world history and law, and students of History Department. During the roundtable Vasyl Yakovych familiarized the students with similar and different points of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Constitution of Ukraine. The students discussed the planned themes which was another step in the exploration of the legal philosophy of the future teachers and lawyers.


On December the 13th the lecturers of the Department of Economics and Law together with Oleksandr Dekarchuk, the Head of Children’s Service of Uman City Council held a seminar on protection of children's rights which discussed a range of issues, in particular, the realization of government policy on social protection of children, prevention of child neglection and homelessness, children committing crimes; interagency collaboration of children’s services, social workers, structural units of government, judicial and police cooperation concerning the interests of children. At the end of the seminar Inna Koval, the lecturer in economics and law on behalf of the organizers thanked everyone for participating in the workshop and called for further closer cooperation aimed at protection of children.


The Week of Law at the University promoted the legal education. To be able to assert one’s rights a person should know them. Awareness of the rights and ability to utilize them is an integral part of quality of life.
