Knowledge in geography is very important for each person. Geography develops imagination, abstract mode of thinking, skills to orient in space, broadens outlook and knowledge on environment. Geography gives knowledge in both environment and humanity. It is a very important branch which is studied by our university students with interest.

Nature and Geography Department follows traditions. This is already the third year of conducting a “Geography Tournament”. This year in the tournament participated first-year – forth-year students of Nature and Geography department and it’s the first time that students of History Department took part in the competition. The welcoming speech made director of Nature, Mathematics and Technology Education Institute, doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor Oleksandr Kobernyck.

10 teams with 5 members each applied for competition. In the beginning there was held an interesting acquaintance with teams – “Anhel”, “Patriots”, “Erudites”, “Stalkers”, “Antares”, “3rd meridian”, “Travellers”, “Greenwich”, “Rio Grande”, “New Generation”.

The battle was “hot”!!! The competition was hold in the assembly hall and consisted of 3 rounds, results of which defined the winners. Among the competent jury were lecturers of Geography and its Teaching Methods Chair and lecturers of Physical Geography and Geology Chair.

The tasks of the competition included both general knowledge in geography and general erudition of students. The team of History Department – “Stalkers” amazed everybody, they were real competitors of students who study geography.

The cup of the tournament had won a team “Patriots”. Anyway, we can say that friendship had won!!! The tournament’s participators appealed for appreciation of geography, as it is a science, which points to the right way in life.

Therefore, the cup of “Geography tournament” won experts in geography “Patriots” (IV year students), II place took the team “3rd meridian” (III year students), III place shared two teams – “Stalkers” (the team of History Department), and “Antares (IV year students).
