USPU students and lecturers together with representatives of the city public participated in the opening of the exhibition "People of Freedom" in the State Historical-Architectural Reserve "Stara Uman".

As it was noted by the presenters - Head of Culture and Leisure Centre "Gaudeamus" of Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University Lyudmyla Hekalyuk and post-graduate student Igor Opatskyi - the exhibition had been dedicated to people who, despite of the difficult and dramatic troubles of the 20th century, made possible the restoration of independence of Ukraine. These people are very different - poets and politicians, soldiers and musicians, scientists and artists. Their resistance was also varied - some fought for the freedom of the people, some for creative freedom of thought, some with arms, while others - with a brush.

The exhibition "People of Freedom" devoted to the 25th anniversary of the nationwide referendum, which confirmed the declaration of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on August 24, 1991 the Act of Independence of Ukraine. It is created by the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, and Sectoral State Archive of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Liberation Movement Research Center, UA: First were co-organizers.

Naturally, that the exhibition "People of Liberty" caused special interest in lecturers and students of the History Department.
