In 1991, our country joined the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, according to which every state must respect and encourage the child's right to full participation in cultural and creative life, provide her full leisure and recreation, facilitate of the provision of appropriate opportunities for this.

At the same time, problems related to the harmonious development of the child's personality, are not diminish. With this in mind, the topic of scientific and methodological seminar "Rights of the Child: From Origins to the Present", that was held on June 14, 2011 at Social Pedagogy and History of Pedagogy Chair in common with the City methodological union of social educators and Uman city-district Department of Justice was appropriate, and therefore became urgent.


The seminar was attended by: Oleksandr S. Dekarchuk - Head of Service in the Matters of Children of Uman borough council; Svitlana O. Chorna - the Main Specialist of Department of Education of Uman borough Council; Valentyna V. Nelyub - social pedagogue of O. Pushkin Uman comprehensive school № 1; Mariya I. Melnyk - social pedagogue of Yu. Gagarin Uman boarding school; Inna O. Gushchyn - the Main Specialist of Uman District Centre of Social Services for family, children and youth and others.

Subjects of the speeches was many-sided: international and national legislative documents that guarantee the rights of children; history and current state of legal education of children and youth; practical activity of social pedagogues and psychologists as for the protection of children’s rights etc.

Seminar participants were unanimous that the International Day of Children's Protection - is not only a fun holiday for kids, but also a reminder to society about the necessity of following children's rights for a harmonious personality formation.
