MEETING WITH LARYSA SHABALINA

The meeting with poetess Larysa Shabalina was like a poetry holiday for students and lecturers of Ukrainian Philology Department. This famous poetess was born in a well-known in Uman region teachers family (father - Vasyl G. Shabalin (1938-2004) – teacher of physics and astronomy, an excellent teacher of USSR public education, a teacher and methodist; mother - Svitlana A. Shabalina (born 1940) an excellent teacher of USSR public education, a teacher and methodist) and that is nice that Laryssa is a graduate of Uman pedagogical university. She works as a teacher of Ukrainian language and literature, fine arts, and since 2004 – as deputy director on educational work in Ladyzhyn school. The poems from poetic collection of L. Shabalina “Probudzennya” are sounded at the meeting (2001), and also - her new poetry. Particularly the audience was fascinated and touched by the songs performed by Larysa. An appropriate " insertion " was the speech of Larysa’s mother Svitlana, who shared the moments with her teachers' work, gave some professional advices and inspired students for future work in the school.

TO VASYL STEFANYK ANNIVERSARY

On May 12 university literary association named after Mykola Bazhan held a solemn meeting on the occasion of the 140-th anniversary of the famous novelist Vasyl Stefanyk (Born on May 14, 1871 in Rusov village, now Snyatyn district of Ivano-Frankivsk region).

The atmosphere of the event was heartfelt and soulful. Lecturers of Ukrainian Literature and Ukrainology Chair were speaking about Vasyl Stefanyk lightening even some very personal details of his life and work. Students were expressing their opinions about novelist’s works. At first, they, together with Maryna S. Pavlenko, who in her speech tried to reach mystery stories of Stefanyk, determined the basic features and secrets of his poetics, in particular - deeply psychological novel "Leseva familiya”. Then the students and lecturers were listening the analysis of partial texts of Stefanyk (including "Klenovyi lystky" and "Ditocha prygoda"), made by Tetyana Lopushan. Leonid V. Kozynskyi was speaking about Stefanyk as well. The audience tried to find an optimism in the works of Stefanyk (as they often show hard life of the Ukrainian peasantry), and, this task was managed quite successfully.

At the time, Vasyl Stefanyk said: "I wrote to set and pull strings of our peasant soul to create a great music of Beethoven. I did it successfully, and others - is literature ". It seems that after this meeting as these words can be paraphrased: the music of Stefanyk - was heard, and others - understanding of all its deeps and the implementation of some young poets mysteries of Stefanyk in own creativity - is a matter of the future.
