Shrovetide is a holiday cycle, preserved with pre-Christian times and connected with winter seeing-off and spring meeting. Shrovetide is celebrated on the last Sunday before Lent, seven weeks before Easter. The main attributes of the holiday are the food made of flour and milk (often, pancakes, dumplings). Also the Pancake week is accompanied by festivities.

This holiday didn’t pass by our university. The students of Economics Department were the initiators of the ancient traditions revival. Girls set the tables, prepared dumplings and pancakes. Shrovetide is female holiday, and our boys to taste pancakes should pay for it.

Students greeted the guests in the lobby, dressed in traditional Ukrainian clothes. They showed folk traditions associated with the celebration of Shrovetide, organized folk games and various contests.

Lecturers and students cooked various pancakes, dumplings, pies, doughnuts and homemade goodies.

Foreign students of the Department also participated in the fair. They were happy to come to sell pancakes prepared by their own. The boys shared that Poland does not celebrate Shrovetide, but they would be happy to have launched such tradition in their families.

We were also supported by our lecturers, rector, and deans.

Special thanks to the Student Council of the Department and all active participants for the excellent preparation and unrivaled holiday atmosphere.

All the participants have unforgettable impressions after the Pancake festival celebration!
