On the eve of the 26th anniversary of Chornobyl nuclear accident at the base of Research Laboratory "Ecology and Education" (Chemistry and Environment Chair) held a briefing devoted to people who sacrificed their lives and health to protect the world from nuclear disaster of global scale. Chornobyl disaster hadn't analogs in scale of man-made environmental pollution affected the health and psyche of people, their social, economic and living conditions.

Dean of Natural Sciences and Geography Department R. Yakymchuk, Head of Chemistry and Ecology Chair S. Sovgira, Head of research laboratory "Ecology and Education" G. Goncharenko, with lecturers professional support and practical assistance organized briefing with students of History Department on the subject of radiation threats and protection from them.


At the briefing, the students were reciting poems, analyzing the situation of previous events, honored people, who had protected the world from the terrible consequences of Chornobyl disaster.

With great interest the audience watched documentary film "Chornobyl tragedy: the memory of the past," in frames of which reflected real events of April 1986, the heroism of liquidators of the largest anthropogenic disaster of all times.


In order to attract the attention of students - future teachers the chronology of events of April 1986 was reconstructed and radiological situation after the explosion was analyzed. Students learned about the causes of the accident, especially the elimination of its consequences and measures currently implemented by the state to solve the problems of nuclear energy, and developing mechanisms and means of its salvation and prevention the emergence of radiation hazardous situations in future.


Memory was the main fuse, the main guarantor of that tragedy would not repeat in future. We wanted that story would teach us first of all - responsibility.
