On February 19, a scientific-methodical seminar "TRENDS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SCHOOL FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION" was held at the Regional Centre of Foreign Languages Teaching.

It was just another event in a series of annual scientific activities, which are held by Foreign Languages Department in close cooperation with the Laboratory of Foreign Languages Teaching of ??Institute of Pedagogy of Ukrainian NAPS and the British Council. This year's guests of honor were the head of the Laboratory, Ph.D. (Pedagogics), Associate Professor Valeriy Redko, manager of the British Council’s partnerships and projects in Ukraine Oleksandr Shalenko, director of Pearson international education group office Maryna Malygina, chief editor of “English” newspaper Tetyana Mykhailenko, lecturers of Taras Shevchenko Uman Humanitarian and Pedagogical College, city and regional secondary schools teachers.

The University rector, doctor of sciences (Pedagogics), professor, corresponding member of NAPS, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine Nataliya Pobirchenko welcomed the guests and acquainted them with the University life and prospects of its development.

The Department’s dean, Ph.D. (Pedagogics), Associate Professor, honored worker of education of Ukraine Nadiya Brit opened the seminar. Guests were also warmly welcomed by the head of the Foreign Languages Teaching Laboratory, ??Ph.D. (Pedagogics), Associate Professor Alla Gembaruk.


Seminar’s opening


The seminar was carried out in the following directions: early learning of foreign languages: status, problems and prospects; strategic directions of foreign language education development in secondary and high school; ways to improve the quality of teaching in higher education etc.


Presentation of All-Ukrainian newspaper "English" for teachers, lecturers, and students and project’s presentation "School Teacher of New Generation", launched by Ministry of Education, Youth and Science of Ukraine and the British Council in Ukraine were conducted in the seminar. The project involved the study of the current state of teacher training in Ukraine, the experience of Ukrainian and British universities as well as the development of the necessary documents and materials aiming at improving the system of teachers’ pre diploma education.

During the seminar’s work the participants could visit an exhibition and sale of literature publishing by "Pearson Longman", which has offices worldwide and specializes in educational and methodical English editions, recommended by Ukrainian MEYS for use in secondary schools.



The wide interest of scholars and teachers from all regions of Ukraine allows to hope that this experience will continue.
